His research interests are closely connected to nature, culture and the visual heritage of South India. His M.Phil. research explored flora and fauna in Tamil Nadu temples, while his CCRT Junior Research Fellowship project examined colours and movements in South Indian village environments.

Radja Perumal’s artistic practice is guided by an eco-aesthetic approach. His works explore the visual, sensory and emotional dimensions of nature through vibrant lines, atmospheric colour fields and organic compositions.

Natural phenomena such as drifting clouds, changing foliage, water, fire and seasonal transformations frequently appear as sources of inspiration. Through these elements, he explores environmental aesthetics as both an experiential and contemplative form of artistic expression.

His professional journey includes numerous solo and group exhibitions and participation in national art camps that have enabled interaction and exchange with artists from diverse backgrounds.

His contributions to art and cultural practice have received several awards and recognitions. He was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

He was also part of the team recognised in the Limca Book of Records for a large-scale non-stop joint finger-painting project in Puducherry.

Alongside his studio and research practice, Radja Perumal is deeply involved in art education. He has extensive experience teaching Fine Arts, conducting workshops, organising exhibitions and guiding students in painting, drawing and creative practice.
