Anandavelou V. is a Puducherry-based visual artist with over 35 years of experience in painting, sculpture, installation and fine art restoration. Working across traditional and contemporary approaches, he is especially known for realistic painting and concept-driven works inspired by society, human experience and cultural identity. He is a Kalaimamani Award recipient and Special Jury Award winner who has participated in numerous exhibitions, artist camps and cultural programmes across India.

About the Artist

Anandavelou V. was born in Puducherry, India, in 1973. His artistic journey began at a young age, and for more than three decades he has continuously explored both traditional and contemporary forms of visual art.

His practice includes painting, sculpture, installation and restoration of fine art, with a particular strength in realistic painting. Through years of self-driven practice and experience, he has developed a distinctive artistic approach that combines technical skill with conceptual thinking.

For Anandavelou, art is not merely about visual beauty. It is a means of expressing thoughts, human experiences, social concerns and ideas that emerge from his observation of the world around him. As an artist and a member of society, he believes creative work carries a responsibility to communicate meaningful ideas and encourage deeper reflection.

His fascination with art has led him to continuously study the works, techniques and styles of artists from around the world. This ongoing learning process has helped shape an artistic language that moves between realism, contemporary expression and experimentation.

Throughout his career, he has created and exhibited paintings, sculptures, installations and other creative works in solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, artist camps and cultural programmes. His work has been presented in Puducherry and various locations across India.

Anandavelou has received several awards and recognitions for his contribution to art, including the Kalaimamani Award and a Special Jury Award. He has also undertaken restoration work for the Puducherry Museum and completed commissioned portrait works for government institutions and other organisations.

For him, the greatest fulfilment comes from transforming ideas and experiences into art and sharing those creations with people from different backgrounds. His continuing journey is driven by curiosity, social awareness and a deep commitment to artistic expression.

My art is shaped by my experiences, observations and thoughts about society and human life. I see myself not only as an artist but also as a responsible member of the world community. Through painting, sculpture, installation and other creative forms, I transform my ideas and experiences into visual expressions that can communicate with people. I continuously learn from artists, cultures and artistic traditions around the world, while developing my own visual language. Creating and sharing art gives me a deep sense of satisfaction and happiness.
